Figure Skating Team Challenge Cup. Ahead of time: Russian woman Trusova for the first time in history performed two quadruple jumps and won the UChM in figure skating. Team North America

Team World Cup figure skating in the original format of the competition starts on Friday in the American Spokane and will last until April 24.

The tournament called the Team Challenge Cup, organized by the US Figure Skating Federation, is a competition in the "commercial" category. Athletes in it no longer represent their own countries, as in the previous tournament or the "classic" world and European championships, but parts of the world and the continent - Asia, Europe and North America. Each team will be represented by three participants in the women's and men's single skating, two sports and two dance couples.

Voronov and Kolyada will be brought to the ice by Christopher Dean

The regulation is unusual. If, within the framework of competitions in men's and women's single skating, athletes will present a short and free program, then dance and sports couples will be marked only free. On the first day of the starts, the skaters of each type of single skating will be divided into three warm-ups, the winner of each will receive 12 points, the 2nd place winner - 10, the 3rd place - 8. By adding the points, the winner will be determined short program(in single skating), who will receive prize money in the amount of 60 thousand dollars (10 thousand per athlete).

On the next day of the competition, sports and dance couples will join the fight, who will skate only free program, and only the best sum of points from each team will be credited to the team piggy bank. On the same day, single skaters will take to the ice with free skates, the scores of two top athletes out of three will be counted and added to the results of greenhouses and dancers. General prize fund tournament is 617 thousand dollars, of which the winner will receive 210 thousand.

The European team will perform under the leadership of the captain - Olympic champion Sarajevo-84 in ice dancing by Briton Christopher Dean. From Russia to the Europeans were initially delegated Sergey Voronov (male single skating), Ksenia Stolbova / Fedor Klimov (sports couples) and Elizaveta Tuktamysheva (women's singles). The 2015 World Champion was eventually unable to cope with an ankle injury and withdrew. The organizers instead invited the winner of the World Championships, Europe and the Grand Prix Final of this season, Evgenia Medvedeva.

Elena Radionova was among the participants thanks to the victory in the voting on the tournament website. The third participant in women's singles is Italian Roberta Rodegiero. Voronov's partner will be his compatriot Mikhail Kolyada, who replaced Maxim Kovtun, who won the vote, but then withdrew, according to the official version, due to "severe otitis." “Neither the flight nor the load is recommended for him,” explained the athlete’s coach Elena Vodorezova.

“I’ve been rolling my skates now, they’ve already started putting on programs, and then there’s a hop, a bell, and that’s all,” Kolyada shared his joy with a correspondent for the R-Sport agency. The Russians will be accompanied by the Czech Michal Brzezina. Klimov performed at the World Championships in Boston (March 30 - April 2) with a back injury, but he and Stolbovaya duo remained overseas and continued to prepare for the tournament in Spokane. Together with them, the Italians Nicole Della Monica and Matteo Guarise will stand up for the honor of Europe.

Without world champions in dance

The winners of the last two world championships in ice dancing, the French Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron, withdrew due to partner problems. They were replaced by the British Penny Coomes and Nicholas Buckland, who will be accompanied by the Italians Anna Cappellini and Luca Lanotte in the European team.

North American team led by Olympic champion 1992 American Christy Yamaguchi formed: Canadian Gabrielle Daleman, Americans Gracie Gold and Ashley Wagner (women's singles); Americans Jason Brown, Adam Rippon and Canadian Nam Nguyen (men's singles); Canadians Megan Duhamel/Eric Radford and Americans Alexa Shimeka/Chris Knierim (couples); Canadians Caitlin Weaver/Andrew Poje and Americans Madison Chalk/Evan Bates (dance).

The Asian team led by the 2006 Olympic champion Japanese Shizuki Arakawa will be represented by: Japanese women Rika Hongo, Satoko Miyahara and Elizabeth Tursynbayeva from Kazakhstan (women's single skating); Chinese Jin Boyan, Japanese Syoma Uno and Kazakh Denis Ten (men's singles); Chinese Wang Xuehan/Wang Lei and Japanese Sumire Suto/Francis Boudreau-Audet (couples); Koreans Rebeka Kim/Kirill Minov and Chinese Shiyue Wang/Xinyu Liu (dance).

The season in figure skating did not end with the World Championship. After the Boston competition, many stars traveled the trail west to Spokane, Washington to compete in the first Team Challenge Cup, a new tournament on the international calendar.

Figure skating is a purely personal sport, however team competition there is more than enough in it. Since 2009, in odd years, it has been organized team championship world among the top six countries. At the Olympics in Sochi, awards were played for the first time among the teams - then gold went to Russia.

And now there is the Team Challenge Cup, where skaters fight not for countries, but for continents. It remotely resembles the Continental Cup in athletics, which takes place every four years - there, too, athletes unite for a while to stand together for their part of the world. True, this tournament cannot be called serious - it is rather a bait for fans who like unusual formats.

The same atmosphere of entertainment accompanied the Team Challenge Cup. Take at least the composition of the participants - one single skater from each continent was chosen by the fans by online voting. Elena Radionova and, who, however, had to give way due to otitis media, received a pass to the tournament in this way. And the captains of the teams were appointed legends of the past - Shizuka Arakawa, Christopher Dean and Christy Yamaguchi.

As you might guess from the names of the captains, teams from Asia, Europe and America took part in the competition. Each team was represented by three men, three girls, two couples and two duets. The tournament was divided into two parts - at first single skaters held separate competitions, and then representatives of all four disciplines united to fight in the overall standings.

The composition of the opponents was solid, but not intimidating. Absent were Yuzuru Hanyu, Gabriela Papadakis and Maya and Alex Shibutani, and Bruno Massot, Sui Wenjin and Hai Cong - and after all, they are all winners of the recent world championship.

In the first part of the tournament single skaters showed only short programs. All participants were divided into six groups of three athletes. The winner of each of them put 12 points in the piggy bank, the next skater could bring 10 points, and the last - eight.

The only European winner of this aperitif was Medvedeva. The reigning world champion scored 77.56 points, narrowly beating Satoko Miyahara and Greyi Gold, who also passed an outstanding 70-point milestone. In addition to 12 points for Europe, Medvedev received an additional cash prize of $5,000.

Radionova did not cope with her program - on the very first triple lutz, the exit did not work out, after which the athlete performed other jumps with flaws - she fell on a triple sheepskin coat and performed an axel in one turn.

Sergei Voronov and Mikhail Kolyada also did not shine in their trios and lost to rivals from Asia and America. The only athlete who exchanged a hundred was the Japanese Soma Uno - his result was five points short of Hanyu's world record.

Among single skaters, the Asian team became the best with 64 points. America lost two points. Europe became the third, in its composition only Medvedev and Italian Roberta Rodegiero were not the last in their groups.

The next day, couples and duets joined the competition. The best continent was now determined by the points scored in free skates. Two results of singles and one pairs and duets were taken into account.

Medvedev again struck modest Spokane. In addition to excellent scores for technique (not a single judge gave a minus!) Incredible marks for components were added - only three were less than nine. All this added up to 151.55 points, which is one and a half points more than her own world record!

“Medvedeva is a wonderful, talented girl, her professional work is visible,” a well-known coach told R-Sport. - Of course, this result will create a certain reserve for the future. Talent and hard work paid off.

There are athletes who just win, and there are those who win and move the sport forward. I think that it is precisely such performances, as Medvedeva had this season, that move the sport forward.”

Radionova added 133.31 points - from the very beginning she succeeded in a cascade of triple lutz and triple toe loop, but the triple rittberger went into the red, and many other elements were not highly rated. Elena became the sixth among single skaters.

Uno also excelled in the free program, ahead of the Americans and. The fourth was Kolyada, who did not lose his head after a failed quarter toe loop and scored a lot of points due to easier jumps. In addition, the judges rated its components quite well - in total, Kolyada scored 165.48 points.

Voronov became penultimate, collecting a modest 132.79 points. His result was not included in the final standings. But Stolbova and Klimov rendered all possible assistance to the team - their result of 130.46 points became the second. The Russians lost only to the world champions from Canada and Eric Radford.

In total, European skaters showed the second result - 848.06 points. The first were the Americans (892.42), and the Asians were the last (820.22) due to the weak composition of pairs and duets.

Other news, materials and statistics can be viewed on figure skating, as well as in the groups of the sports department in in social networks

- Zhenya, when such a busy season is behind you, when the Grand Prix Final, the European and World Championships were won, and even with a world record, how difficult was it to tune in to the last push?

- Any tournament is important for me. I have never had such an experience - to work in a team. Coach Eteri Tutberidze and I knew about the World Cup for a long time, but we were not completely sure that we would participate in it. Initially, Liza Tuktamysheva was supposed to go to Spokane, but an injury prevented her. Of course, I already felt tired, and the goal was, as they say, to hold out. But, on the other hand, I'm interested in something new, it always spurs me on. As before, the coach and I set the maximum goals: not to make things easier, to skate programs with all the elements, to fight for the team.

- Keeping the bar high throughout the season is difficult not only physically, but also psychologically ...

- Again, I'm used to betting maximum tasks. People often ask me now: “Zhenya, this season you did everything. Aren’t you afraid that next time you won’t be able to perform so well?” Of course, everyone has ups and downs. But why should I think about it in advance? I'm not afraid of my work, I love it! I think next year will be very interesting!

- After the World Cup, you and the bronze medalist Anna Pogorila were literally torn apart by all television and radio channels. Didn't expect such a hype?

- No. Although after Yulia Lipnitskaya performed at the Sochi Olympics, we saw how many journalists came to our rink, trying to interview her. And I think then, probably, any of us thought that we could also find ourselves in a similar situation if we succeeded. But still, those were the Games... Does it weigh me down? No, I'm a sociable person by nature, even interesting.

Well, it looks like you're tired...

- Yes there is a bit (smiles). It's just that today is such a cloudy day, I really want to sleep. And I love the sun.

- When we talked the last time, you said that in training, in no case do you allow yourself to succumb to the mood. Like, if she went out on the ice, she should work.

- This is true. It is very important for me to overcome myself. Sometimes the coach has to bring me to my senses, but mostly I try to cope with my emotions myself. I am a very quick-tempered person, my mood often changes, so there is something to work on.

- Do you worry a lot when something doesn’t work out in training? Some are crying, others are kicking ice with skates ...

“I never touch ice. Hit with all your might with a prong - there will be a hole. Then you yourself can fall into this hole and suffer. For what? I just leave the site and sit for a while, looking at one point. It calms me down the best.

- In life, you adhere to the same principle: no one should know about my bad mood?

- Trying. For example, I can't help talking to the fans, even if I'm not in the mood or I'm very tired. Before the start, it’s better not to approach me, I immerse myself in myself, I don’t see anything, I don’t hear anyone. But after the competition I give out autographs, take pictures with everyone. And I take the attention of the press calmly. Journalists work too. And I can't stop people from doing their jobs. It’s like I’m going on the ice now, and other skaters will start telling me: Zhenya, get out of here, why are you skating here, you’re bothering us ... I don’t know if I said it right, but I understand it that way.

- A year ago you won the World Junior Championship. Don't you get the feeling that many people still treat you like a child?

- No. Everyone who knows me communicates with me as with a fairly adult person.

- They say you even took part in a direct line with the president. This is true?

- Yes, I sat in the front row, listened attentively to everything. Sports are sports, but there are so many different topics and problems discussed here, that in any case I got a very useful experience.

- How is the preparation for the exams for the ninth grade? Or is everything already behind, handed over externally?

- No, the exams are ahead, in early May. How can I do it, I don't know! But I will try. No one will do favors for me.

- I wonder if the attitude of the coach towards you has not changed after all the successes? Maybe it has become more demanding or vice versa?

- From the side of Eteri Georgievna, I do not feel any changes. But she began to treat her with even more respect. Because if it weren't for her, there wouldn't be everything that I have now. And most of all in my coach I appreciate and love purposefulness and desire to help.

- Tutberidze herself claims that your distinguishing feature- industriousness. And this quality you differed from others in childhood. “I don’t remember that Zhenya just stood on the ice for even a minute. She was constantly on the move, she didn’t even need to be given assignments.”

- Well, that's how I am. (smiles). When now little girls ask: how did you achieve such results? I answer them: work! Even when something doesn’t work out and you don’t want anything, you need to pull yourself together. Remember that there are many people - relatives, friends who want to help. They believe in you, they rely on you, so you need to work at least for their sake.

- Despite all the achievements, do you have an understanding of where to move next season?

– In fact, I still have a lot of places that need strengthening. I would like to improve in spins and choreography, in conveying the image on ice. There are enough moments here that cut my own eyes.

- So far, all your programs have been sustained in a lyrical style. No desire to try yourself in new images?

– It seems to me that there is no need to be afraid of experiments. For example, I love Spain very much, I have been there many times. When I hear Spanish music, this rhythm just bursts me. I think that I could already roll out such a program. But here I completely trust the coach, while we have not yet discussed this issue with her. It often happens like this: it seems that the program suits you, you feel it, but it doesn’t work and that’s it. Or vice versa. At the beginning of the season, for example, we thought that my current free program was a kind of risk. No one has ever used such an image in women's singles before. But it did!

- Have you achieved all the goals you set for this season?

Yes, the season was good.

- If you call it in one word, how did it turn out for you personally? Many call it fantastic, crazy...

- Productive. I wouldn't exactly call him crazy. Rather calm. I didn’t promise anything to anyone, I didn’t say that, they say, I’ll go out now and there will be victory after victory. We worked with the coach, we were in no hurry, we didn’t twitch. Training is competition, training is competition. All calm.

- Have you already decided on a vacation?

- I like to relax in Asia. Already been to Thailand, Korea, Japan. And now I'm going to Vietnam.
