Belarusian biathlete Daria Blashko will compete for the Ukrainian national team. Daria Blashko moved from Belarus to the Ukrainian flag

In September, it became known that Daria Blashko plans to play for the Ukrainian national team, and already in October, a biathlete from Novopolotsk received a Ukrainian passport.

For the first time after the transition, Blashko, who was called the “next Domracheva,” told SPORT.TUT.BY in detail why she did not see options to stay in Belarus and how she plans to spend two years of quarantine if this period is still not reduced.

“My coach and I were in huge debt. It's depressing when you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel."

- When did you finally decide to change the team?

At the beginning of summer. Two recent years gave herself completely to work, spent everything she earned on preparation and hoped for understanding from the outside Belarusian Federation biathlon. But at some point, my coach Vladimir Anatolyevich Makhlaev and I found ourselves in huge debts and faced a choice: either I should train at the Raubichi Republican Olympic Training Center, or look for other options.

- Did the Belarusian Biathlon Federation fund your training?

Yes, but getting funding was problematic. At the same time, we still found a compromise with the previous chairman of the federation, Valery Pavlovich Vakulchik. He listened to different opinions and made sound decisions. After the change of leadership, we turned on the red light everywhere. This happened because of the refusal to prepare in the Raubichi team.

- Did you often have to go to the training camp for your money?

No, the training camp was mainly financed by the federation, although there were also trips at their own expense. But the purchase of skis, poles, lubricants and other important components has always been exclusively on our shoulders. For two years I have not received a single pair of skis from the Belarusian Biathlon Club. Some of the equipment was provided by sponsors, whom the coach and I found on our own, and some we bought ourselves. It hurts when you don't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

- Why didn't you always receive funding?

Because I trained separately from the team. I understand that being outside the team, the athlete loses in many ways. But I did not want to work in the Raubichi team, where there are no guarantees that the coaches of this group will remain in place, and they will not be replaced by new ones. There is no confidence in systematic training with one coach, so I decided to continue working with Vdimir Makhlaev.

This year, on the eve of summer training, my coach and I were looking for funding for pre-season training for a month, but we didn’t get anything. The federation's argument is the disastrous World Junior Championship. Although I spent all four races of the championship in the top ten and do not think that I failed the start. In biathlon, one shot can make all the difference.

“My coach is not one of those who will spoil the career of an athlete for their own interests”

- The main reason for the transition - the desire to continue working with Vladimir Makhlaev?

It was important for me to work under the guidance of Vladimir Anatolyevich, who has been teaching me since the 10th grade. I was not opposed to preparing in the general group, but under the control of my coach. The Federation stubbornly did not include him in the lists coaching staff regardless of results.

After the successful junior world championship in 2015, Vladimir Anatolyevich was fired from the team of the Raubichi center, and she herself was dismissed. After that, the athletes from his group tried for some time to find themselves in biathlon, but soon many ended their careers anyway. And now we see that there is no one to compete in the IBU Cup.

Vladimir Anatolyevich wanted to work only with you or was he ready to join the work with other athletes?

He was ready to work on an equal footing with others Belarusian biathletes. I even went to an appointment with the Minister of Sports Alexander Shamko about working with this coach. He promised to think over my question. But we never received an answer. Now Vladimir Anatolyevich is involved in the Ukrainian team precisely on such conditions - as my personal coach and one of the coaches of Team B of the Ukrainian national team.

Why did you not agree to join the group of athletes from team B, where the Belarusian federation wanted to see you?

In Belarus, there is no B composition as such. The training of the group consisting of Dinara Alimbekova and Daria Yurkevich, as far as I know, is financed by the Republican Olympic Training Center Raubichi. My coach was actually forced to give his pupils to this center. In two years, he transferred three athletes to Raubichi, and he himself was left without a salary.

Vladimir Anatolyevich is not one of those who will spoil the career of a biathlete for the sake of their own interests. I just didn’t want to go to training at Raubichi myself, because this would lead to a change of coach.

- What were the prospects for getting into the main team in Belarus?

As far as I know, in Belarus they did not see a prospect in me. Always considered exclusively sluggish with no chance of progress in speed in the future. Also, the Belarusian Biathlon Federation is looking for and selects athletes in terms of the IPC - the maximum oxygen consumption. I tested this indicator in Ramsau two years ago after the World Championships in Raubichi, when I was physically and emotionally emasculated.

Then, due to dizziness, I finished testing ahead of schedule. As a result, the score was low. And in the federation for some reason they took it as a basis. Further testing gave higher data. Of course, not a super high figure, but one with which you can demonstrate decent results.

- You were offered to join the main team during last year's pre-season. Why refused?

I was not ready to be in the national team, because physically I simply would not have pulled those loads. The young body should receive adequate, systematic loads, and not constantly changing training methods.

“The Belarusian Federation almost directly says: athletes are consumables”

- Were there moments when you regretted that you refused to train with the main team of the Belarusian team?

No, I think that the decision is absolutely correct. If I had then joined the national team, now, probably, no one would have known such an athlete as Daria Blashko. Most likely, I would have already finished my career.

- Why?

In the Belarusian Federation, they almost directly say that athletes are expendable. If this doesn't work, we'll find another. But an athlete is first and foremost a human life. We are around the clock at training camps and competitions. This is not just a job, but a whole life. Everyone has the right to decide their own destiny.

- Can experimenting with changing coaches and training methods ruin an athlete's career?

Certainly. Imagine that you are going to the store, but suddenly turn right, then left, then go back. So you will never get there. And if you work according to a clear plan, then you know the course: go straight and do not turn off.

Why should an athlete change direction just because another coach came? At a minimum, you need to give the specialist time to implement his methodology, and not remove the coach immediately after an unsuccessful season, denigrating his name. Raphael Poiret was absolutely right: it takes more than one year to raise a strong generation.

- Working with Vladimir Makhlaev, do you see your progress as an athlete?

Yes. We conduct an in-depth analysis ski run and shooting based on the results of competitions and seasons. We see that we are moving in the right direction. Sharp growth does not bring anything positive. A smooth growth is a continuous upward movement. Of course, I would like to progress faster. But if earlier with a clean move I lost to athletes from the reserve team of Ukraine for about a minute, now we show about equal speeds.

There is an opinion that your coach Vladimir Makhlaev uses you for his own selfish purposes and winds you up in a direction that is beneficial to him.

I take these statements calmly, because I know how everything really works. All decisions were made jointly, and no side outweighed here.

- What attempts did the Belarusian Biathlon Federation make to keep you in the national team?

Representatives of the federation talked with Vladimir Anatolyevich during the competition in Shushen. With me for the first time started a conversation on the topic of the reverse transition at the end of November. They asked if I could appear in the federation after the eighth of December to explain the reason for the transfer. The federation started negotiations only now, although I clearly stated at the end of June that I would play for Ukraine.

- How did you announce the transition?

I quit the Belarusian Biathlon Club on the 4th of July - this date is in my work book. Therefore, it is obvious that the federation knew about my plans since the summer. In addition, we talked with Andrian Tsybulsky and quite honestly and openly announced that we were moving to the Ukrainian team. There were no offers to stay and find a compromise. Now they are trying to turn back time, but this is not done. When the club signed my letter of resignation, they also did not take any measures to leave me in the Belarusian team.

- Why did you decide to go to the national team of Ukraine?

When Vladimir Anatolyevich and I realized that there were no more opportunities for training in Belarus, we turned to the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine. The coach used to work with the Ukrainian team and was familiar with the president of the federation Vladimir Brynzak.

Vladimir Mikhailovich really lives for biathlon. Hence the results of the Ukrainian team. We are very grateful to the President of the Ukrainian Federation for his support and assistance. He reassures me that even two years of quarantine will not be a problem and they are ready to wait for me.

“I was proud of playing for Belarus. But there are tough decisions to be made.”

When leaving the Belarusian national team, were you ready for a two-year quarantine by the International Biathlon Union?

Yes, we knew it was possible. To be honest, I didn’t really count on other options.

The Belarusian Biathlon Federation is not satisfied that an athlete, in whom the state has invested budget funds, wants to represent another country.

Why does the Belarusian Biathlon Federation not think about how much money Russia invests in those athletes who later compete for Belarus? Russian side released biathletes without quarantine, although there are considerable funds invested in athletes, especially in the pupils of the Tyumen region.

- What is your plan of action in case of a two-year quarantine?

We thought about training with IBU Cup athletes, but it turned out to be impossible. I can't get accreditation and training beep, and therefore I don't have access to the track and shooting range. Now the coach and I are working separately from the Ukrainian team B, with which we were preparing for the start of the season.

If I have a two-year quarantine, then I plan to compete in cross-country skiing and participate in open national championships biathlon countries. For example, FIS cross-country skiing competitions in the Carpathians have recently ended. In the sprint skating I took first place, beating the skiers from the main teams of Belarus and Ukraine. At the end of December I will start at the Ukrainian biathlon championship.

Are you going to meet with the Belarusian Biathlon Federation before they make a final decision on the quarantine?

I do not rule out such a possibility. But in the near future I have planned competitions and a training camp. It is unreasonable to break loose and go over 1500 kilometers in the midst of training and starts.

- Who is funding your training now?

Biathlon Federation of Ukraine. I participated in joint camps with team B, and at the first stage IBU Cup Vladimir Anatolyevich helped coaches and servicemen. We were involved on an equal basis with the rest and accepted into a single team.

- Why is the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine interested in your transition?

The Ukrainian leadership is working for the future. They understand that no matter how strong the biathletes of the current national team are, they are not eternal. Someday the time will come for a generational change, so the Ukrainian leadership is preparing a reserve.

Do you feel that you are ready to win the competition with Ukrainian biathletes and get into the main squad for the World Cup?

Of course, Ukraine has a very strong team, and I like it. There is an opportunity to learn from strong athletes and observe their preparation. I understand that nothing is impossible. All athletes are ordinary people. There are many examples when a biathlete started in the middle, and then achieved high results.

- Have you been tormented by the fact that changing the flag is unpatriotic?

For the last two years I have run exclusively on patriotism. We invested our own money in training, but did not say that these were only our merits. I performed under the Belarusian flag and have always been proud of it. But there comes a time when you have to make difficult decisions so as not to spoil sports way.

- Do you keep in touch with someone from the Belarusian team?

Yes. I communicate well with the girls with whom I ran together. We do not discuss the nuances of preparation. I absolutely do not know what is happening in the Belarusian team now and how the work was carried out, which led to good results at the starting stages of the World Cup. I am happy for their success.

“I left to compete for Ukraine, and not to blackmail the Belarusian Biathlon Federation”

- Do you admit the option that you will still play for Belarus?

No, no matter what conditions they offer me. After two years of work with the Belarusian Biathlon Federation, it is already hard to believe in a miracle. I see prospects in Ukraine. They believe in me here, and I can't let these people down. I moved to Ukraine with the clear goal of competing for this country and was not going to blackmail the Belarusian Biathlon Federation in this way.

I see a difference in attitude to the results and training of athletes, the openness of the Belarusian and Ukrainian federations. The Belarusian Biathlon Federation always hides something, publishes little news, and in Ukraine you can easily find the comments of the president of the federation on issues of interest to fans. He never hides from anyone.

- How did the athletes from the Ukrainian team meet you?

Of course, at first I felt like a stranger. I myself remember how I reacted to the transfer of foreign athletes to the Belarusian national team: suddenly a person from the outside appears and claims the place for which you fought for years. But the Ukrainian girls accepted me well. There were no raids - only mutual support. I am truly rooting for this team.

In Raubichi, starting from Friday, races of the national championship in summer biathlon will be held, which will be the first competitive experience in the Olympic off-season for the female team of Fyodor Svoboda and Alfred Eder.

True, if we talk about real contenders for the February trip to South Korea, that is, the doubt that we will see Irina Krivko in the competitive case, who suffered in September with a toothache. And certainly, three-time Olympic champion Daria Domracheva will not perform in Raubichi, who, having worked out an intensive training camp in the Alpine middle mountains, will undergo a calm reverse acclimatization.

But everything is clear with them. But why won't Daria Blashko, who is now more associated with the Ukrainian team than with her native Belarusian team, not be at the championship?

Not every Daria is a gift

I defended this simple idea back in those distant days of 2015, when many were touched by the success of Blaschko at the home junior world championship in Raubichi. And in this emotion they compared this Daria with DaDo. And found similarities. More precisely, they did not find it, but fantasized about this topic that pleasantly warmed their vanity. For the needs of the public, always wanting to have new heroes.

But the fact of the matter is that even in those very successful days in biathlon, Blaschko did not convince sober-minded specialists of anything. If Domracheva was a comet from childhood, then Blaschko is a slow girl, and objective data did not promise serious accelerations, provided she worked honestly within the framework of the existing anti-doping code.

In fact, it was a very cruel sentence, whose essence is as follows: it is possible to foster a more or less qualified athlete from this Daria, but it will be difficult for her to even qualify for a place in the Olympic relay. What happened. More than any success worthy of mention, the athlete did not achieve even at the junior level. Although all conditions were created for her and coach Vladimir Makhlaev.

Running in place

So, Blaschko was very lucky with the name. But as for the mentor, this is a very difficult question. The fact that Makhlaev is experienced, has many past merits and fusses with Daria, as with his own child, is undoubted. But where he leads the pupil is not clear.

More precisely, Blaschko herself, infinitely devoted to the coach and listening only to him, believes in the first option. No "youth rebellion" - amazing blind devotion. And this is understandable. After all, Makhlaev talks about her "genius", which Daria does not hear from anyone else.

And cannot hear if the analyst is conscientious. Any unconfirmed junior success raises suspicions in afterburner, which is not projected in any way on a brighter tomorrow. Often even rejecting the possibility of such a bright tomorrow. Junior victories are not bad, but it would be much more important to see the potential for development. And with this, problems arose. And so, it was necessary to moderate the ardor. It’s not worth lying to yourself, you need to tell yourself everything honestly about yourself. But where is it!

© Sputnik / Viktor Tolochko

But by knocking out funds for training outside the team and according to his individual, actually unaccountable plans, Makhlaev maneuvered amazingly, avoiding objective testing, at the same time exploiting the "principle of gradualness." He was suspected of afterburner, and he came in with an ace! Say, I won’t let Blaschko be ruined by adult loads, which will mature ... for the 2022 Games in Beijing, when the athlete turns 26 years old. The jokers said that the debut at the Olympics at 30 was even more promising, but Makhlaev did not see anything funny in this. Like, maybe so.

Considering how badly Blaschko performed at all levels, things began to look like running on the spot last season. And it is not surprising that Makhlaev, realizing that there will be no faith in words regardless of their pathos, and therefore campaigns with complaints to high offices no longer promise victories, launched the "search and suggestion mode."

They say there were winter appeals to the Bulgarian team. Blaschko was not interested there. Then a Ukrainian version arose ... As a result, Daria, who was instructed in May to become an adult athlete and train in the “B” team, which was perfectly packed by the Olympic off-season, simply disappeared, becoming a malicious violator of labor discipline - a truant.

But Blashko showed up along with Makhlaev next to the Ukrainian team. Note, it is "next to", and not in it. This is the salt of the modern moment.

To whom does the night bird sing?

So, Blashko has been hanging out with Ukrainians at off-season training camps for several months, but so far our southern neighbors have not turned to the Belarusian federation with a request to officially resolve the situation with Daria, who herself has not renounced our sports citizenship. The information that the knot was untied, and Blashko was released in peace and a one-year disqualification to Ukraine, was refuted by the BSE Secretary General Anatoly Stromsky. Moreover, there is almost complete certainty that this third-party rumor was launched, let's say, by the entourage of our heroes in order to confuse the Belarusian media.

But how to explain the fact of neighborly slowness? Option one. The Ukrainians are in no hurry, realizing that, whenever they turn to Minsk, Blaszko’s quarantine period, probably two years, will start from her last start under the Belarusian flag at competitions held under the auspices of the International Biathlon Union. That is from March 2017. Therefore, they continue to look closely at Daria, thinking about the sheepskin and her dressing.

© Sputnik / Viktor Tolochko

Option two. They have all figured it out and are more inclined to answer "no" than "yes", not understanding how to get out of the situation without loss of reputation and good relations with the Belarusians. After all, even if we recall the 2015 World Cup in Kontiolahti, where the Ukrainian women's team won medals, the neighbors were preparing for the main start in our Zayachya Polyana. They were met on many issues. And in order to spit in the Belarusian well, you need confidence that there is for whom and for what ...

And as for Makhlaev and Blashko themselves, who, after Darya’s performance as a neutral athlete in Ruhpolding at the German Summer Biathlon Championships, managed to stir up a new wave of interest in the Belarusian media - “We are losing talent!”, That is, the suspicion that their sweetest dream is ... not in the Ukrainian tomorrow.

They want to find a person in Minsk who will be able to find justice for the leadership of the BSE, forcing the biathlon leaders to return the duet to their homeland. With an oath to comply with any whims and demands of the financial plan, let Blaschko's hypothetical Olympic debut be postponed even until the 2026 or 2030 Games.

There is news in biathlon. One of the most promising young athletes in the country - Daria Blashko - is one step away from becoming new season start in the form of the national team of Ukraine. For most fans, the news that appeared the day before is akin to July snow. With talents in our biathlon, and so the trouble. Which of the leaders will continue to perform after the Olympics in Pyeongchang is a question.

And Blashko was one of the first in the list of contenders for, albeit local, but leadership.

In the winter of 2015, fans were ready to carry Dasha in their arms. At the World Junior Championships held in Raubichi, not only she shone: Anna Sola and Dinara Alimbekova also became champions in the relay. But only Dasha personally won, triumphantly winning the sprint and only due to a mistake at the shooting range, losing a medal in the pursuit. Analogies with another Dasha - only a year earlier became a triple Olympic champion Domracheva - suggested themselves, and the charming Blaschko instantly became everyone's favorite. Moreover, a year later, to the victory in Raubichi, she added the first place in the overall standings of the IBU Junior Cup.

And now - Ukraine?

Blaschko is a special case. In previous years, such moves could hardly be surprising. But unlike, for example, Lilia Vaigina-Efremova, who left for Ukraine at one time, Daria could hardly complain about the lack of conditions or attention in Belarus. Her peers and friends in the "gold" relay team - Anna Sola and Dinara Alimbekova - are already actively involved in international competitions, including at the World Cup. running around with mixed success, but the coaches do not require a dizzying takeoff and results from them right now. They take care of it with an eye to the next Olympic cycle. Dasha was also offered a place next to the leaders. At the same time, the conditions in the “B” team, in which the athlete was included, were hardly worse than those of the main clip preparing for the starts in Pyeongchang.

In an effort to defend the right to work with Blaschko according to her own methods, her coach Vladimir Makhlaev at one time almost reached the Minister of Sports. He argued, convinced that "connecting such a young athlete to the main team is akin to transferring a first-grader two classes higher." He reminded me of the need to save talents for future great achievements. They believed, they trusted: “Go for it!” And they even turned a blind eye to the not-so-impressive performance of the athlete last season. Last winter, Dasha was not only inferior to Sole and Alimbekova, but lost to her own schedule and plans for the season. The coach had only one answer: work for the future. The prospect, apparently, opened the day before, however, it is still not easy to consider anything in it. The phone of Blashko, who had recently trained at the training camp in Raubichi and was always willing to make contact, is out of range. Just as suddenly went "underground" and Makhlaev. Dasha's friends-athletes confirm that Blashko and her coach are no longer in Belarus. True, the Belarusian Biathlon Federation has not received any official papers about Blaschko from the Ukrainian side, and in the international system the athlete is also still listed under the BLR code. The answer to the question of how much the loss of Blaschko (if you follow all the formalities - a possible loss) will be significant for the Belarusian team, apparently, can only be time.

Two weeks have passed since the transition of ex-world youth champion Darya Blashko from the national team of Belarus to Ukraine began to take on concrete shape. During this time, she managed to obtain a new citizenship.

“If you decide to leave, then something was wrong”

She is already a citizen of Ukraine. We will wait for a response from the biathlon federation of Belarus. Either she will be allowed to play for the new national team, or there will be a quarantine (forced break. - Ed.) for two years, ”Vladimir Brynzak, president of the Biathlon Federation of Ukraine, told Komsomolskaya Pravda.

What mechanism works in this case?

We are writing a letter. Given that our athletes moved without quarantine, we will ask that it be the same with Blaschko. We hope she will not be punished for moving to Ukraine.

- Is there a preliminary agreement? What are the prospects for resolving the issue?

I talked with the chairman of the Belarusian Biathlon Federation (BFB) Adrian Tsibulsky. It was a tough conversation. I understand when athletes leave, it's always hard, I also found myself in this situation. But we talked at the summer World Cup. Another thing is the official level. And he will not be the only one to decide, most likely, the executive committee or the presidium. Therefore, there is no point in guessing - we will wait. We hope for the best.

- Already sent an official request, documents?

Today we will send another part, we were waiting for the presidential decree, when Daria will officially become a citizen of Ukraine.

- How long will it take to resolve the issue?

Depends on BFB. Maybe one day, maybe a month. While Blashko will train, perform at the Ukrainian Championship.

- The Secretary General of the BSE said that all conditions were created for her in Belarus.

If they left, then something was wrong. It's better to ask them. I was not the initiator of this transition and never poached anyone. When they firmly decided to leave, to Ukraine, Bulgaria or other countries, then they turned to us. We decided to help and go forward.

“Blashko was offered to train with the national team, but she wanted with a personal trainer”

BSE General Secretary Anatoly Stromsky assured that they saw the prospect in Blashko and created all the conditions:

We are waiting for official documents from Ukraine. According to the media, one can judge that she was given citizenship, but so far there have been no applications to our federation.

- I was told that they were supposed to send today.

Maybe. I'm on the road now. If there is something, we will consider it. This is within the competence of the presidium, someone alone will not solve this issue.

- What are the prospects? Quarantine or is it possible to find a compromise?

Let's see what kind of letter the Ukrainian side will write, what they propose. Naturally, if we do not give the go-ahead for the transition, then she ends up in a two-year quarantine. If they decide, they say, God bless her, let her go, or if Ukraine is interested in something, then she will be able to perform right away. But it will be after the official appeal.

- To avoid quarantine, what should the Ukrainian side offer? Financial compensation?

It is possible without compensation. When an athlete receives citizenship, she applies to the IBU ( international union biathletes) with a request to allow it. If the country for which she played earlier does not mind, then the IBU can immediately give the right to play, or reduce the quarantine for a year. If there is no consent, then the athlete will in any case be quarantined from the date she competed in last time for your team. In Blaschko's case, this is from March 2017.

- What is the reason for the transition? She did not train with the national team.

In the Ukrainian media, she or her coach said that Blashko allegedly was not allowed to train in Belarus. This is not entirely true. We saw a prospect in her, offered to work with the national team. But she only wanted to work with her coach Makhlaev. I see the reason for this. But he was not included in the team. We have only Domracheva can afford to train with a personal trainer in individual program. All the rest are engaged with the coaches of the national team. They counted on Blaschko very much, the team needed her in the relay race, and the change of generations ... Most likely, Makhlaev played a big role in her transition. But we don't know the conditions of the transfer, maybe she was lured with big money or something else. With us, she received as much as possible under the law.

Biathlon. Daria Blashko: it's very nice to finish with the flag of Ukraine

2018-09-25 16:39:26

Belarusian biathlete Daria Blashko, who changed sports citizenship and now plays for the Ukrainian national team, commented at the summer championship of Ukraine in Chernihiv.

It's very nice to finish first, with the flag, especially since Ukraine gave me a second chance. And I'm very happy that things are turning out the way they are.

I felt fine along the way. The fact that we were shooting from the first installations also played a role, and there the wind did not particularly walk. Now we are preparing for Obertiallah, and then for the final training camp on the snow before the start of the season. At the moment, preparations are going well, everything is according to plan, - Blaschko quotes biathlon.com.ua.

and how do you think the Russians felt looking like Domracheva and Kuzmina at the Olympics stamped gold one after another, and we would feel like that, but in this case I very much doubt that it will be so ..

According to Kuzmina, everything is clear here, they were decommissioned from the ship because of a thick asshole for someone, so she had every right. I don’t understand why you are writing about Dasha on this occasion? She has always been a citizen of Belarus by passport and NEVER gave a reason and never said that she would like to run for Russia. And the fact that she trained there when her parents worked there does not make her obligated at that time to take Russian sports citizenship.

Well, you see, there is a strong opinion in wadded heads that Dasha was taught EVERYTHING in Russia, and we, Belarusians, owe the "big brother" a coffin of life for this. It’s just that some people have a very short memory, they have already forgotten how Dasha came to Belarus with Pinocchio. She confused targets, prone with a stand ... And in Russia, everyone who now beats their ears on their cheeks, then frankly laughed at her.
